Be Kind to Your Mind! Youth Fair

  • Hancock Middle School 501 Campus Drive Hancock, MI, 49930 United States (map)

HANCOCK — Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds is a local group dedicated to talking more openly about mental health, building a resilient community, and supporting those at risk. They meet monthly at the Portage Lake District Library, all community members are welcome to attend. The group is hosting its first FREE youth-focused mental health and wellness fair, Be Kind to Your Mind!, in January 2024.

Be Kind to Your Mind! invites area youth ages 13-19 to join their friends in fun activities that also support their mental and emotional well-being. This includes making watercolor bookmarks and beaded bracelets with positive messages, getting temporary tattoos, playing guitar, writing or journaling, and a relaxing sound bath. Participants will have the chance to hear stories and experiences from speakers who have struggled with mental health, physical wellness, and addiction. Free food and raffle prizes from local businesses will also be available. The event will be held on Jan. 27, 2024, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Hancock Middle School (near the cafeteria).

Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds member Dr. Michelle Morgan notes that “There are many well-researched activities that can promote mental health and reduce depression, anxiety, and risk factors for substance misuse and suicide. Our community will benefit from providing these prevention activities as well as expanding treatment opportunities.”

FREE transportation is available through “Reliable Rides - Taxi and Errands” for this event. Call 906-281-2560 or schedule your ride online by Friday, January 26, 2024, to use this free service: reliableridestaxianderrands.com.
